Tips For Using Your Electronic Message Signs

Having electronic message signs installed at your place of business is so exciting. But the installation is just the first step. Once your signs are in place, you have to start using them. That's where some sign owners hit a bit of a wall. There are a lot of decisions to make, from the content of the message to the font size. Here are some tips to help you make those decisions and put forward electronic messages that really make your point.

Keep your message simple

It can be tempting to add more and more information to your sign because you want to keep your customers very well informed. But remember that people will move past your sign and probably won't stop to read what they can't easily read while passing. So, keep your message simple. A line or two is enough. The goal of your sign should be to give people an overview and pique their interest so they come seek out more info from you.

Choose a contrasting color

You want your sign to be as readable as possible. If you have an electronic sign that allows you to adjust the colors of the font and background, make sure the two colors you choose contrast one another well. For example, white text on a navy blue background can work. So can black text on a pale blue background. Red text on an orange background, on the other hand, is a poor choice.

Maximize your font

Which font size should you use? That's mostly determined by your message. Decide on a message, and then pick the font size that allows you to maximize the amount of space that message takes up on your sign. For some shorter messages, this might be one size. For some longer messages, it may be a smaller size.

Change your message often

Make sure you change up your message now and then. This way, people won't just get used to seeing the same thing on your sign and ignoring it. Whether you rotate between three different messages or come up with a new one every week, offering some variety is key.

With the tips above, you can put your new electronic message sign to good use. It's about more than just the words you choose for your message. It's also about the font you use, the color those words are, and how often you change things up.
